Katrine’s New Venture
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s been coming for a while. I’ve been doing everything I could do to prepare for it, but it’s like most things that change when you don’t want them to change, I’m not happy about it.On the other hand, what can I say? It’s really a huge step in the right direction.
What am I talking about? Katrine Berger, our firm’s Client Services Director, is leaving us to go to Southwestern Law School for her law degree. That is the good news and the bad news. Read More→
April Is National Autism Awareness Month
Posted by: | CommentsAs many of you know, I have a daughter with autism. Since April is National Autism Awareness Month, I wanted to speak to you a bit about what it is and what it is not. Because so many Americans are diagnosed with it, you probably know someone who is autistic.
One thing you should know is that autism is not a disease. It is a neurological condition that can develop in children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. It manifests itself as uniquely as individuals are different from each other, but there are some common displays of autistic behavior. Read More→
Shooting Myself In The Foot
Posted by: | CommentsThis week, I’ve been taking an inventory, so to speak, of how I’m doing with my New Year’s Resolutions. My main Resolution was to say, “Yes, I can!” more often, stepping outside my comfort zone and being more open to new things.
To be honest, I think I’ve done pretty well. But I’m not perfect. I have probably missed some opportunities, some I’m sure of and some I will never know what I could have realized had I said, “Yes!” Read More→
Sneak Preview
Posted by: | CommentsWow! This week has been so busy! It’s what I love, though, with new clients, and talking to people about their particular situations and providing the solutions that work best for them and their families. Plus, I’m getting ready for the upcoming free seminars, where I have the opportunity to speak face with face to parents about this important part of their planning.
I’m also preparing to introduce some new features to my website, www.estplan.com, so stay tuned for some exciting announcements about that soon. Read More→
Ready For A Vacation… Some Day
Posted by: | CommentsI must be ready for a vacation… I mean a REAL vacation! I’ve taken my girls to Disneyland a half dozen times in the past couple of months, and I’ve gone to Las Vegas several times, but I must be ready for some rest and relaxation.
A friend and I were talking last week, and she mentioned that she had always wanted to visit the Galapagos Islands. I was surprised, but her reasons made me all of a sudden a little wistful. Read More→
What Do a DVD Player, A Blacksmith and a Pay Phone Have in Common?
Posted by: | CommentsYears ago, I went to my local consumer electronics retailer to purchase a new personal computer that had new technology that I’d heard was so fantastic that I had to have one to see for myself what all the hoopla was about. It introduced something called Microsoft Windows (remember when you had to log out of word processing to get to Lotus?).
Then, something called a DVD player was introduced, and I went to the same place to get one to replace my VCR player. Along came the laptop; the Palm Pilot, the IPOD and so on. I always went to the same place because I enjoyed the shopping experience and the people were educated on how to help me get what I wanted and needed. Read More→
Never Say No To A Good Time
Posted by: | CommentsHave you had a chance to see the movie, “Yes Man?” It stars Jim Carey, and he plays a negative man who attends a meeting where he is challenged to say yes to everything. He is inspired to try this tactic for one year. It is a comedy, of course, and he finds that sometimes saying yes to everything can cause more problems than being negative. But it is a feel-good movie with a great ending where he finally finds he’s overcome his negativity.
I did go see this movie. And, frankly, it inspired ME! Now, I don’t consider myself a negative person, but it occurred to me that saying yes to more opportunities – instead of my usual “No” reaction to something outside my “comfort zone” – can only benefit me. Read More→
A Magical Birthday
Posted by: | CommentsLast week, I got a call from a professional organizer, Sasha Lauren. I’m sure you’ve all heard about people who can come into your home or office and show you how to get things clean and organized and how to keep it that way. Sasha is a little different in that she is a holistic coach and offers financial organization. She even talked about how to manage children!
I suppose things always happen for a reason because a few days before she called, I had an experience that piqued my interest even more in what she had to say. Read More→
Hey! Why DIDN’T We Get A Manual?!!!
Posted by: | CommentsOne of the things I really enjoy about being a Personal Family Lawyer is the networking I get to do and meeting new people whose missions are similar to mine (helping families).
If you remember my “corner” from a couple of weeks ago, I told you about my having a booth at the “Taste of Encino” event. There, I met Faith Golden, M.A., of It’s Aparent, Parent and Behavioral Specialists. She and I discussed some of the issues parents face these days, and it occurred to me that I’d like to devote this week’s topic to parenting skills. Read More→
Grandma Rose
Posted by: | CommentsHas it been 3 weeks since I last wrote?!!! It has been such an extremely busy time, and unfortunately, last week, I had to say goodbye to another family member who was so wonderful and special to me. So, this is dedicated to my Grandma Rose who passed away November 12th.
